Paloma Niespodzianka and her owner Dorota (@dotka_stokrotka) are among the winners of the Food Book competition on Instagram, in which they won a free nutrition consultation. Paloma is a four-year-old Polish half-bred mare in light work, because she is ridden for leisure 3 times a week. Her diet was built to support a young body.
Paloma is a young and fairly lively horse, so the base of her feeding is Protein Muesli, fed twice a day at breakfast and dinner. It is a protein-rich mix based on dried alfalfa, with a moderate energy content, so it suits a young horse in light work. Above all it tops up Paloma's diet with the protein needed while she is maturing.
Every meal is completed with the vitamin and mineral pellet Grassland Everyday Care. It is a high-quality supplement supplying nutrients that support immunity, coat and hoof horn quality and general condition. Fed regularly, it helps Paloma keep a healthy look, and her diet is completed with the vitamins and minerals a horse needs.
After training, three times a week, Paloma gets an extra meal of mash. In spring and summer that is Isotonic Mash, which helps replace electrolytes, supports recovery after work and improves hydration. In autumn and winter the mash is changed to Fruity Mash, rich in chokeberry and currant pomace, a source of vitamins C and E that support immunity.
Paloma's diet is balanced to support the development of a young horse in light work and to build muscle. It supplies the right amount of energy, protein, vitamins and minerals while keeping her temperament in check. As her training develops and she matures, the amounts can be adjusted further, or feeds with a slightly higher energy concentration can be introduced if needed.
